Meet Alex

Welcome! I'm glad you're here!

As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have the honor of hearing stories from many people, perhaps just like you, who want to break patterns of disconnection, relieve emotional and relational pain, and grow in skills and knowledge that produce realistic hope.

Whether it's a self-paced online relationship course or one of our relationship-strengthening books, I hope you will join us in this new life of peace, hope and intimacy!

On this growth journey with you,

Alex

Passion and Experience

Alex A. Avila, MA, LPC, ACS, CST, CSAT, CPTT, NCC, CAT, CBCP

Alex is passionate about healthy relationships!

In his personal and professional life, he strives to speak and teach the language of experiencing connection and live and model a lifestyle of intimacy.

Personally, Alex is in constant awareness of improving (and of course, fully enjoying!) his relationships with his wife and son. His feelings of connection to his wife, Claudia, in multiple ways inspired him to write 40 Forms of Intimacy.

His desire to help couples recognize the many ways they (already and can) feel close to each other and develop a deeper intimacy also prompted this writing.

Professionally, Alex holds thousands of hours of experience counseling individuals and couples on a variety of life issues. He earned a master’s degree (with honors) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and holds a bachelors degree (graduating Summa Cum Laude) with a dual major in Psychology and Business Administration.

Alex is credentialed as a

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS)
  • Board-Certified National Certified Counselor (NCC)
  • Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT)
  • Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT)
  • Certified Sex Therapist (CST)
  • Certified Partner Trauma Therapist (CPTT)
  • Certified Addiction Technician (CAT)
  • Certified Body-Centered Psychotherapist (CBCP).

Relationship Institute of the Rockies

Over several years meeting with individuals, couples and families for private professional counseling, Alex began to develop a deep passion for relationship education.

He noticed that children, teens, and adults could all benefit from skills and insights to help create healthy relationships.

With the stigma that counseling and therapy can hold, he also recognized that people who may not seek out counseling WOULD attend a class, seminar, workshop or retreat.

So, Relationship Institute of the Rockies was born!

to share realistic hope and passionately help you thrive in your most important relationships!
